EU AI Act general-purpose AI (GPAI) models
If you provide a general-purpose AI model (one that can be used for many tasks and built into other systems), you have your own set of obligations: technical documentation, information for downstream providers, a copyright policy and a training-data summary.
Screening questions
- Do you provide (develop and place on the market) a general-purpose AI model, rather than only use one? If Yes, GPAI provider obligations apply separately.
If this applies
Providers of general-purpose AI models have obligations under the Act, in force since 2 August 2025, separate from the risk class of any system built on them.
